A new trailer for Pokémon Sun and Moon has revealed a large amount of new information, including the first evolution of the starter Pokémon, Ash-Greninja, Festival Plaza, Poké Pelago, the Pokémon Global Link, and the Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon Special Demo Version.
Dartrix is the evolved form of Rowlet. It is Grass/Flying-type and has the Ability Overgrow. It attacks by throwing its knife-edged feathers, and it possesses extremely sharp senses. It can detect opponents behind it and can throw feathers to strike them without even seeing them. This Pokémon cares a great deal about its appearance, grooming its feathers in every spare moment it has.
Torracat is the evolved form of Litten. It is Fire-type and has the Ability Blaze. It produces flames for its attacks from a bell-like sac attached at the base of its throat. Torracat has a great love for battle and will attack relentlessly. Its mane can sense what is going on around it, even in the dark, and is able to detect the presence of hidden enemies.
Brionne is the evolved form of Popplio. It is Water-type and has the Ability Torrent. Brionne can dance in perfect time with others and is always cheery and positive. A very hard worker, Brionne learns dances by imitating other members of its colony and can sometimes even learn dances from humans. As this Pokémon dances, it creates balloons and slaps them into its target, making them explode and deal damage to its opponents.
Ash-Greninja is an alternate form of Greninja. It is Water/Dark-type, like regular Greninja. Due to a mysterious power known as the bond phenomenon, a Greninja with the Ability Battle Bond can change form into Ash-Greninja until the end of the battle when it knocks out an opposing Pokémon.

Festival Plaza artwork
A new feature called Festival Plaza allows players to see other people playing near them, or other players that are connected to the internet to battle or trade. Communication features such as battling and trading are all gathered together in Festival Plaza. As the player progresses through the game, they will become able to use Festival Plaza.
By talking to people and listening to their requests in Festival Plaza, players can receive Festival Coins. Festival Coins can be spent on stores in the plaza, such as dye houses, goody shops (where rare items are sold), and bouncy castles for Pokémon to train in.
As the player gathers more Festival Coins, their Festival Plaza will rank up, yielding rewards and making more activities available. With enough Festival Coins, players will gain the ability to host missions, which allow multiple players to work together to try to achieve certain goals.
Missions can be attempted with other players via local wireless or the Internet. It also seems that global missions will sometimes be held, in which everyone playing Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon can work together to achieve a goal.
Poké Pelago artwork
A new feature called Poké Pelago allows Pokémon that are stored in a PC Box to explore a variety of isles, play on athletic equipment, and enjoy other fun activities. If players send many Pokémon to Poké Pelago, they can develop more facilities on the isles and also develop new kinds of isles. As these isles are developed and increase in number, they will allow players to obtain items and even raise Pokémon.
Wild Pokémon visiting Isle Abeens, which can be visited from the start, may sometimes choose to join the player's party. A Pokémon that displays a heart icon in the bubble above its head has taken a liking to the player.
In Isle Aphun, which can be used once the player develops it, allows the player to obtain valuable items. Non-English European language versions of the official site show the player obtaining an item whose name translates to Ice Stone, which has not appeared in previous games.
Pokémon that were able to Mega Evolve in previous Pokémon games will also be able to Mega Evolve in Pokémon Sun and Moon. The Mega Stones for Pokémon with the capability to Mega Evolve that appear in the Alola region may be received from characters in the game or obtained from special shops.
The Pokémon Global Link will be updated for Pokémon Sun and Moon and will be available from the games' launch. The updated Pokémon Global Link site will have new features, including new online competitions, global missions and more.
Rating Battles will return, which are online ladders available for players to compete in, which are reset periodically (referred to as the end of the season). The three Rating Battle formats from Generation VI will carry over, with one new format; these formats are Single, Double, Special, and Championships Battle. The first season will begin on the game's launch day, November 18, 2016.
The exclusion of certain Legendary and Mythical Pokémon from Single and Double Battle regulations remains the same as in the past.
Special Battles are long-term formats with unusual rules, with the rules changing each time the rankings are reset. In Season 1, it will be a Single Battle format that allows Pokémon that cannot take part under other battle rules: Solgaleo, Lunala, Magearna, Ash-Greninja, and others.
The new Championships Battle format allows players to compete using the Pokémon World Championship Series 2017 rules. Previously, Pokémon World Championship Series rules were only playable when they appeared as Special Battles. These Pokémon WCS 2017 rules be:
- Pokémon Sun and Moon
- Double Battle format
- Only Pokémon that appear in the Alola Region Pokédex (excluding some Legendary and all Mythical Pokémon)
- Use of Mega Stones is not allowed (but Z-Crystals are allowed)
- Only Pokémon that can be obtained in Pokémon Sun and Moon may be entered
- The 'Your Time' setting will be enabled
A new system will be introduced to the battle time settings called 'Your Time'. When using this method of time accounting, players will have a maximum of 60 seconds each turn to select a move or Pokémon, and they will also each be awarded 10 minutes of 'Your Time'. Under these rules, if a player runs out of their 10 minutes before the battle ends, that player loses the match. This will mean matches can be decided more quickly than in the past, allowing players to enjoy thrilling battles.
In addition to the Pokémon obtainable in Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon, Pokémon obtainable in Pokémon X, Y, Omega Ruby, and Alpha Sapphire will also become eligible to use under the regulations for Single and Double Rating Battles for a set time after the update to Pokémon Bank in January 2017. At a later date, special rules are anticipated for Rating Battles and Live Competitions that will allow the use of Pokémon brought into Pokémon Sun or Moon from the Nintendo 3DS Virtual Console software titles Pokémon Red, Pokémon Blue, and Pokémon Yellow: Special Pikachu Edition.
A new feature called Battle Teams allows players to register teams of one to six Pokémon. A player can have a maximum of six Battle Teams, and the same Pokémon can be registered to several Battle Teams simultaneously.
When the Pokémon Global Link is updated for Pokémon Sun and Moon, a new feature will be available called QR Rental Teams. Players will be able to publicly share their own teams and to use Battle Teams designed by other players. Public Battle Teams can be used by scanning in their QR Code patterns from the Pokémon Global Link. Players can take part in Link Battles and certain Rating Battles using Rental Teams. Players can try battling using the Pokémon of expert players, like the victors of the World Championships.
Additionally, a new feature called global missions will be available. Global missions are limited-time events that give players around the world a shared mission via Festival Plaza, and they will be held at regular intervals. The theme of the first global mission will be 'Catch a lot of Pokémon!' It's expected to go live in late November. The number of Pokémon needed, along with other goals to achieve, will be announced on the Pokémon Global Link immediately before the mission goes live. To help celebrate the opening of the PGL, a special gift to all PGL members will be given out after the first successful global mission.
The Pokémon Sun and Pokémon Moon Special Demo Version will be available to download directly from Nintendo eShop or via the official Nintendo website starting from October 18, 2016. The Special Demo Version introduces players to the Alola region and features Ash-Greninja, the Pokémon that appears alongside Ash in the animated TV series Pokémon the Series: XYZ. Players will be able to transfer their Ash-Greninja from the Special Demo Version to their full version of Pokémon Sun or Pokémon Moon.
